Victim in fatal Aurora shooting identified

Aurora Police told media they believe there's "some isolation to this incident."

No one is in custody after two people were shot, one fatally, in Aurora on Tuesday morning.

The shooting happened in the 1000 block of S. Evanston Way around 8:30 a.m., according to the Aurora Police Department. One of the victims was able to make his way to a nearby 7-Eleven. That person was taken to the hospital and is stable.

The other person died at the scene, which was an apartment building.

On Wednesday morning, the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Potros Mabany, 21. His cause of death was gunshot wounds to the head and chest.

No suspect information was released during a press conference just after 10 a.m., but Bill Hummel with APD told media he doesn't believe the shooting was completely random and says there's "some isolation to this incident."

Nearby Gateway High School was put on lockdown as a precaution, though the shooting was not school-related.

Witnesses urged to call Aurora Police 303-627-3100. They can remain anonymous and call Crime Stoppers.
