A man charged with sexual assault in Denver is accused of throwing the victim over a railing along Speer Boulevard in the Lower Downtown area.

The Denver District Attorney’s Office charged 22-year-old Abel Fitum with four felonies that include sexual assault, unlawful sexual contact and second degree kidnapping.

Prosecutors accuse Fitum of sexually assaulting the victim while she walked near Speer Boulevard and Little Raven Street at around 9:15 p.m. on May 2.

Fitum then allegedly threw the victim over the railing of the stairs that lead from Speer to Little Raven. Witnesses called 911 and the suspect was arrested shortly after.

Fitum is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning.
