A teenage boy was taken into custody after a loaded gun was found in his backpack Tuesday afternoon.

The suspect was in the parking lot of Chaparral High School, but is not a student at the school.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said that at about 2:15 p.m. a school resource went to check on the boy at the request of school security.

The suspect began walking away after seeing the deputy coming his way.

The teen resisted the deputy and had to be restrained, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies said the gun was reported stolen from Pueblo.

It's not known why the teen was at Chaparral.

Charges against the boy are pending.
