Timnath bunker explosion suspect could get probation

Williams was set for a preliminary hearing Friday morning, during which 8th Judicial District Judge Susan Blanco would have decided whether sufficient evidence existed to charge him with first-degree assault, two felony counts of child abuse and arson, among other things.

The man charged in connection with a Timnath bunker explosion that critically burned him and two other people is considering a plea deal that would include probation and no additional jail time, attorneys said Friday.

Michael Lee Williams, 35, was arrested in August in connection with a June explosion of an underground bunker. He excavated the bunker without proper ventilation or reinforcements to prevent collapse, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.

The bunker exploded, injuring Williams, another man and a 12-year-old child, after Williams entered the space with butane to make hash oil, court records show.

Williams was set for a preliminary hearing Friday morning, during which 8th Judicial District Judge Susan Blanco would have decided whether sufficient evidence existed to charge him with first-degree assault, two felony counts of child abuse and arson, among other things.
