A juvenile received a summons for criminal mischief after a 20 foot tree was cut down in Memorial Park last month. The tree was valued at over $1,000.

The City of Arvada posted an image of the downed tree on its Facebook page Friday to raise awareness about the high cost of vandalism for taxpayers.

In this case a witness contacted police and an officer was able to track the suspect to Arvada High School. Due to their age, no information is being released except that they were given a municipal court summons for criminal mischief.

A spokesperson for the city says the tree cutting is just one of example of vandalism that occurs in the city's parks and golf courses. Other incidents include knocking over port-a-potties and driving onto a golf course to do "wheelies".

If you see witness vandalism you're asked to call police dispatch at 720-898-6900.
