Arrest made after Westminster DUI traffic stop turns into homicide investigation

While talking to a suspected drunk driver, officers realized the people in the car may have been involved in a shooting.

An arrest has been made after a Westminster officer pulled over a suspected drunk driver in the early hours of Thursday morning and soon realized the people inside the car may have been involved in a nearby shooting, authorities say.

After talking to those in the car, Westminster Police went to the Edgewood Apartments at 6980 Stuart Street later that morning and found a crime scene in one of the apartments, police say. They also found a man's body inside the apartment.

Marquis Leon Brooks, 21, was arrested and charged with manslaughter Thursday night. He'll be held at the Adams County Detention Facility.

According to police, no more information will be released at this point of the investigation. Authorities haven't said what led them to that exact apartment, but it was likely the conversation with the suspected DUI driver.

Westminster PD hasn't said what happened to the people in the car the officer pulled over or even how many there were. They have not said if Brooks was in the car.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Adams County Coroner's Office.
