Police are searching for a man who pulled a gun on a woman, then stole her purse as she was leaving a recreation center in Boulder Monday night.

Boulder police were called to the North Boulder Recreation Center at 3170 Broadway just before 9 p.m. on a report of a robbery.

The victim was walking to her car after using the rec center when she heard footsteps, turned around and saw a man running towards her with a black semi-automatic handgun, police said.

The woman screamed as the suspect grabbed at her purse.

She then fell to the ground and used her purse to cover her body as the suspect grabbed her hair, slammed her head on the pavement and took her purse before fleeing in a dark colored sedan, police said.

The woman was treated for her head injury at the scene. She told police the headlights on the vehicle sat low to the ground.

The suspect is described as a 30 to 40-year-old light skinned Hispanic or black man with a tall and slender build with a disheveled beard.

He was wearing a black hoodie, jeans and had hair protruding from under his hood.
