Two women have been taken into custody for their alleged role in a Castle Rock crime spree that involved at least 10 car break-ins.

The chain of events that led up to the arrest of 20-year-old Crystal Moore and 26-year-old Victoria Ovando-Reyes – both of Aurora – began at around 8:46 a.m Thursday, when Castle Rock police say a witness spotted them trying to break into a car in the Crystal Valley subdivision.

Police say when they drove away, another witness followed them to the 1300 block of West Plum Creek Parkway. Moore, who was trying the car, lost control and crashed into a ditch, police say.

Officers later determined their vehicle was stolen and had stolen plates.

Both Moore and Ovando-Reyes took off running but were picked up by someone driving by. When a witness saw this happen, they called Castle Rock police, who alerted an officer in the area.

That officer stopped the car and arrested the two women.

Both of them have been booked into the Douglas County Detention Center on charges of aggravated motor vehicle theft, criminal trespass, theft and conspiracy.

Moore faces additional charges for reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, driving on a revoked license, possession of a schedule II narcotic as well as two warrants from surrounding agencies.

Castle Rock police believe there could have been other car break-ins. Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to call 303-663-6100.
