LAKEWOOD, Colo. — Carmody Middle School in Lakewood was lockout for about 5 hours Friday while officers investigated a report of a student with a weapon, according to John Romero with the Lakewood Police Department.
No weapon was found, according to Romero, and all students and staff are safe.
The lockout was lifted just before 4:30 p.m. and students were released. The school's normal dismissal time is 2:02 p.m.
The school said in a letter to parents they chose to stay in a lockout longer than the normal school day so they could "complete the search and investigation before dismissing students."
The Jefferson County School district said school leadership will send a follow-up to parents about what happened sometime Friday evening.
A lockout means it's business as usual inside the buildings, but entry and exit are restricted.
Carmody Middle School is at 2050 S. Kipling St. in Lakewood.
