The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora will soon open an institute dedicated to traumatic brain injury and mental health of veterans, thanks to a $38 million gift from The Marcus Foundation announced today.
The Atlanta-based Marcus Foundation -- created by Bernard Marcus, retired co-founder of The Home Depot (NYSE: HD) -- committed the money over the next five years.
The clinic will be named the Marcus Institute for Brain Health at CU Anschutz, campus officials said. It will open this summer with a focus on serving military veterans who have experienced a traumatic brain injury and mental health issues associated with it.
"Our intent is to build a network of healing for those who served our country and suffer the invisible wounds of war," Marcus said of his gift.
