Laura Barton — wife of Peter Barton, a former CEO of Liberty Media Corp. — has donated a $10 million endowment fund to the University of Denver's Institute for Philanthropy and Social Enterprise, the university announced.

The institute was founded this year with the goal of addressing "major social issues and improve society by promoting and enhancing traditional and new forms of philanthropy, social enterprise and partnerships among the private, public, nonprofit and academic sectors," DU said in an announcement.

The Bartons and David Miller — the institute's executive director and formerly CEO of the Denver Foundation — have been longtime friends and supporters of the university, DU said.

"Their gift will have a profound impact on our community and region for years to come,” said DU Chancellor Rebecca Chopp. “With DU as the anchor institution, we will form deep collaborations with our community partners to advance the public good.”
