The principal of D’Evelyn Junior Senior High School who was arrested for assault and placed on administrative leave earlier this month returned to school on Tuesday.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Tony Edwards for third degree misdemeanor assault on November 9.

School officials said the matter did not involve any D’Evelyn staff or students.

The district conducted an investigation into the incident and announced Edwards' return in a letter to parents on Monday night.

"I want to update you on the principalship at D’Evelyn. The district has concluded its investigation and Mr. Edwards will be returning to school beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, November 29, 2016. I’d like to thank all staff and parents for your patience, understanding and continued support throughout this time. Special thanks to the D’Evelyn Steering Committee for their leadership and attention to this matter, as well as their ongoing partnership with the district."

Specific details on his arrest have not yet been released.

D'Evelyn is widely considered one of the top academic high schools in Colorado every year.
