DENVER — Teachers from across the state plan to rally at the State Capitol Monday morning as part of the Colorado Education Association's Day of Action.

Demonstrators will red for public education as they call for increased school funding. At 10 a.m. CEA members will start meeting with their elected senators and representatives.

Those meetings will be followed by a rally set to begin at 4:30 p.m. on the West Steps of the Capitol.

So many teachers in the Englewood school district planned to attend the event that the district canceled classes for Monday.

The rally at the Capitol follows similar events in other states. On Friday thousands of educators in Kentucky met at their capitol to demand more funding.

Teachers in West Virginia went on strike hoping to put pressure on lawmakers to meet their demands.
