Dec. 1 is World AIDS Day.
When HIV and AIDS were first talked about back in the 1980s, it was thought as a virus and disease that only affected gay men.
But, since 1985, the number of cases among women has more than tripled – and women now account for one in five new HIV diagnoses.
A locally produced documentary will share the stories of women who have HIV. It’s called “Staying Positive: Women Living with HIV Speak Out Against Stigma.”
Andrea Stachowski, with the nonprofit Empowerment and Corlyn Jones, who appears in the documentary, appeared on 9NEWS at noon to talk more about the film.
You can hear from them in the video above.
The documentary is screening on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. at the Sie Film Center. To learn more, go to: http://www.storycenter.org/positive
