45-year-old man drowns in Clear Creek

The man was swimming in Clear Creek Saturday afternoon when he was swept downstream.

GOLDEN — Golden Police said a man drowned in Clear Creek Saturday afternoon.

Police said the 45-year-old victim was swimming with his family near Tunnel 1 off of Highway 6.

Witnesses told police the man had been using a rope tied around his waist at first.

The man took off the rope and was free swimming, which police said he had done before.

The man's family lost sight of him.

About a half-hour later, the man's body was found downstream at the kayak park in Golden.

An off-duty Denver paramedic pulled the victim from the water and began CPR. Golden Police officers then arrived and assisted with CPR and used an AED on the man.

Medics arrived and took over all life-saving measures. They took the man to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The man's identity has not yet been released.
