April is Child Abuse Awareness Month.
In Jefferson County, a group dedicated to protecting kids from abuse and helping them stay on the right side of the law has its own district attorney.
There is a fulltime prosecutor at the Ralston House, which acts as a safe environment where investigators and social workers can talk to children about the abuse they’ve experienced.
The hope in having a prosecutor is to get help with cases at the child advocacy center before they go to court.
Christian Gardner-Wood, a deputy district attorney with the Jefferson County DA’s Office, joined us on 9NEWS at 4 p.m. to talk about the Ralston House.
The Ralston House says the Colorado State Child Abuse Hotline is an important resource for viewers who suspect possible child abuse. That can be reached at: 1-844-CO4KIDS
