Better book now if you want a campsite in Colorado this summer

You can reserve campsites six months out.
Camping by Whiskey Creek, October 2015

If you're like the author of this post, you can barely plan a month ahead … so the Fourth of July may seem like basically an eternity away.

But, with that being said, it's actually less than six months away … and that means if you want to snag one of the more popular campsites in the state, you should act fast.

Basically, you can start booking campsites from Colorado Parks and Wildlife six months out from when you actually want to start camping.

And that's based on your arrival date – so say if you wanted a prime spot on the Fourth of July but were arriving on July 2, you could have booked your site at midnight on Jan. 2.

You have to pay for those campsites in full when you reserve them.
