The U.S. Department of Interior on Tuesday issued its final rule requiring companies to reduce the leakage of natural gas from their equipment on federal and tribal lands.
And two oil and gas trade associations — Denver’s Western Energy Alliance and the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA), which has a Colorado chapter — quickly fired back with a lawsuit seeking to halt the rule.
The suit claims the rule for the Bureau of Land Management is beyond the agency’s authority and duplicates rules issued by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and by various states such as Colorado.
The suit was filed in the federal district court in Wyoming. The groups are represented by attorneys Eric Waeckerlin and Kathleen Schroder of Davis Graham & Stubbs.
