A 2-year-old boy reported missing in El Paso County Saturday night died after he was taken to a hospital Sunday morning.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office say they are investigating Nain Dominguez's death as an accidental drowning.

An Amber Alert was issued Saturday night for Dominguez, who was last seen playing with an older sibling in the 1300 block of Forest Road in Colorado Springs, the sheriff's office said. A spokesperson for the sheriff's office said that was who reported Dominguez missing.

The alert was canceled shortly after 7 a.m. on Sunday when the boy was located near the spot where he originally went missing. He was then taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, however, the sheriff's office isn't being specific about what those injuries were or what could've caused them.

"Despite medical intervention," Dominguez died at the hospital Sunday, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office couldn't say when an autopsy might be scheduled.

When he went missing, the boy was wearing a green sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, and no shoes, according to the sheriff's office.

Details on where Dominguez was found have not yet been released.

The investigation is ongoing.
