Assisted living residents forced to move

"I didn't know we had that many people looking for new places to live... to take ours," said Mary Long. She's been living at Golden Manor Assisted Living for almost 30 years.
"I didn't know we had that many people looking for new places to live... to take ours," said Mary Long. She's been living at Golden Manor Assisted Living for almost 30 years.

With thousands of people moving to Denver, others are being forced to move out.

The latest example is the Golden Manor Assisted Living facility on West Colfax.

The administrator says the property has been sold to a developer. The area's growth is making it hard on those now looking for a new place to live.

It's more than the view, it's the company that Mary Long is going to miss the most at Golden Manor.

She's seen this city change year after year for 30 years now.

She never imagined her home would be next to change.

A Golden Manor administrator says she and 67 others have until April to find a new place to live.

"It hasn't hit me, until I see them come with the big boxes," she said as she teared up, "It sounds easy, pack everything and go, but I'm nervous."

Mary can't imagine ever replacing the place she's loved for so long. So far, her dad and case manager have tried with no luck.

"I didn't know we had that many people looking for new places to live," she said, "to take ours."
