Denver International Airport’s new parking lot opened Monday, sporting solar power panels that not only generate power for the grid, but also generate shade for 609 of the total 800 parking slots.
The lot at 6195 N. Panasonic Way is part of a new development called the Peña Station NEXT development, which includes the North American headquarters for Panasonic Enterprise Solutions Co.. The development is being billed as a “smart city” that will integrate a variety of technologies into its transportation and operations.
“This is a great step to continue to be a smart city — we’re starting from scratch here,” Denver Mayor Michael Hancock said.
The price to park at the new lot is $2 per 12-hour period, $4 daily for overnight parking, and $36 for monthly parking.
