Two brothers have been arrested for crimes of elder abuse and sexual exploitation of a child after their home was deemed uninhabitable and child pornography discovered on their computers.

On Saturday morning, Englewood Police Officers responded to 3951 South Washington Street on a report of a woman screaming. Although the alleged assault was un-related to the home, it led police to knock on the door and find the Alberts' living in squalor.

Officers say Timothy Alberts, 61, Daniel Alberts, 66, and their 91-year-old father, Gerald had been living in the home for 16 years.

When a search warrant was executed, officers found that the home was extremely filthy, and included mice, rats, maggots, and other insects. Conditions were so bad, that the City of Englewood Building Department immediately condemned the residence.

When police questioned the Alberts brothers, they say they told them they were pedophiles and that Timothy likes children ages 1-8, while Daniel likes kids ages 8-13.

"To feel that you might not be safe in your own backyard, in your own neighborhood, it's tough to swallow," said Vincent Ruscio, who lives across a small alleyway from the home with his wife and 4-year-old daughter.

According to the Colorado Bureau of Investigations, Timothy Alberts was convicted of sexually assaulting a child in 1983. He was again found guilty of sexual assault in 1989. Alberts is not on the sex offender registry.

In Colorado, a person is required to register as a sex offender if he or she was convicted after 1991.

Both brothers are being held in jail on a $50,000 bond. Their father was removed from the home to get medical care.
