Fort Collins Police is investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred Saturday morning, the city said.

A 23-year-old man was driving a 2016 Honda Accord south on Shields Street when he drifted off the east side of the road in the 6700 block. The car struck several sections of wood fence before coming to rest on the grassy shoulder.

The driver died on scene. There was no one else in the vehicle.

Police think that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Shields Street was closed about four hours between Trilby Road and 57th Street while police investigated.

The driver’s identity will be released by Larimer County Medical Examiner’s Officer once the family has been informed.
