Two million views later, a mother’s efforts to bring more attention to her medical bill just might have succeeded.

“I had to pay $39.95 to hold my baby after he was born,” she proclaimed.

Once the story moved on Reddit, the clicks multiplied.

As much of the personal information has been blacked out, it’s not clear where the woman lives and what hospital she’s talking about.

I had to pay $39.35 to hold my baby after he was born.

The charge was for “skin to skin” contact immediately following her C-Section. The practice has become increasingly popular in recent years as research continues to highlight the benefits on mother/child contact immediately after birth.

While staff would be necessary to allow for a mother to hold her child immediately after the surgery, it’s unclear why that wouldn’t just be lumped into the charge for delivery.
