One person is in custody after a fatal crash involving a semi and a pickup on Interstate 70 late Saturday night.

Officer Putnam with Denver Police said the semi was heading east on I-70 near Interstate 25 when a pickup merged onto the highway; the trucks collided and at least one hit a barrier around 11:50 p.m.

Putnam says the semi caught fire, killing the driver.

The driver of the pickup, according to Putnam, fled the scene on foot but was later arrested in Denver. That person is facing a vehicular homicide charge.

No information is available on either driver yet, he says.

The crash led to an extended closure of Interstate 70 near the I-25 interchange. As of 3:30 p.m., all eastbound lanes have reopened. The westbound lanes reopened earlier Sunday morning.
