ESTES PARK - A woman was killed and seven others injured in a lightning strike at Rocky Mountain National Park Friday afternoon.

It happened around 1:20 p.m. on Ute Trail off of Trail Ridge Road between Rainbow Curve and Forest Canyon Overlook. Doctors say the eight were hiking when lightning struck as they approached the end of the trail.

Two of the injured victims were transported by ambulance and five transported themselves to the Estes Park Medical Center. Three people were listed in stable condition and four were treated and released as of Friday evening.

The park did not identify the woman who died, or the people who were injured. Officials said they would not be releasing additional information Friday.
