Man critically injured after Lakewood house fire

The cause of the fire is under investigation after two people had to be taken to local hospitals with injuries Tuesday morning.

A man was critically injured after a house caught fire in Lakewood Tuesday morning.

West Metro Fire says the fire started at 17th Avenue and Harlan Street – near Walker-Branch Park. Two men were inside the residence at the time.

One of them was able to get out and call 911, while the other was trapped inside and needed to be rescued by firefighters, according to a tweet by West Metro Fire.

Both men were taken to the hospital – one with critical injuries and the other with minor injuries.

Smoke from the fire could be seen throughout the Denver metro area during the morning commute. Crews are still on scene working on hotspots inside the garage.

The home and garage sustained heavy damage, firefighters say.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
