A man was killed after speeding away from a Larimer County Sheriff's deputy Thursday night.
The sheriff's office said that at around 9:15 p.m. a deputy was investigating suspicious activity near County Rd. 8 and Meadowlark Dr. in Berthoud.
A deputy saw a BMW sedan commit a traffic violation as it was leaving the area. The deputy turned on his lights and tried making a traffic stop.
Instead of stopping, the BMW driver sped away heading south on County Rd. 17.
The sheriff's office said the BMW reached speeds of over 100 mph, pulling away from the pursuing deputy.
As the deputy neared County Roads 17 and 2E, he saw that the BMW had crashed off of the road.
The BMW driver was ejected in the crash, and died at the scene. The sheriff's office said the driver was the only person in the car.
Deputies said the driver had multiple arrest warrants and that his license was suspended.
The Larimer coroner has not yet released the name of the man killed.
