Laber picked up her boys from school early Tuesday. Police said an hour to an hour and a half before she did that, she purchased a new Glock 9mm semi-automatic handgun. The weapon was found inside the vehicle.

Police said she did go through a proper background check.

Around 8 p.m. Tuesday night her husband called police saying his family did not return home. Twelve hours later, a passerby spotted the silver minivan parked next to the former Sports Authority building near C-470 and Quebec.

Officers found the mother and two sons dead inside.

“I think that I mourn the loss as a citizen of Douglas County. I certainly know my staff is being very involved in mourning the loss and we too like law enforcement have professionals involved. But I think it hits us as hard as any other citizen," said Jill Romann, the Douglas County coroner.

A family spokesperson says they are blindsided by the deaths.
