KUSA — The 9NEWS morning show team has a big announcement to make … just in time for the holiday season.

We’ve decided to grow our little family. Nope, it’s not a new anchor. Instead, we’re adopting a scout elf.

What is a scout elf, you ask? Basically, it’s a Christmas tradition inspired by a 2005 children’s book called “The Elf on the Shelf.” The elves are dispatched by Santa from the North Pole to determine who’s naughty or nice (obviously the entire 9NEWS morning show crew is on the nice list).

They’re little elves that get up to all kinds of shenanigans, and hang out in a new location every day for optimal surveillance.

Now that we’re adopting a scout elf, and we asked 9NEWS viewers to help us with a name.

The winner was Nio! Which means 9 in Swedish.

Every day we've shared the adventures of Nio, the 9NEWS elf on the shelf and what shenanigans he is up to.

Here is his journey.
