New Belgium Brewing lays off nearly 30 employees in Fort Collins, Asheville

The cuts, which represent less than 4 percent of New Belgium's workforce, were not due to a decline in business, according to the company's Friday announcement.
Fort Collins is the hometown of New Belgium Brewing Co., the nation's fourth-largest craft beer-maker. The brewery is also known for being employee-owned, one of the best places to work, and for its environmental efforts.

New Belgium Brewing announced Friday that it laid off 28 employees companywide — including 25 in Fort Collins.

The country’s fourth-largest craft brewery — which will continue to distribute to all 50 states — cut a variety of positions from support staff, administration, information technology, human resources and production. Three employees in Asheville, North Carolina were let go.

“Today has been a tough day at New Belgium,” CEO Steve Fechheimer said in a company press release. “We feel deeply for the employees impacted and wish them nothing but the best in the future.”

Fechheimer, a former whiskey executive, was hired this past summer.
