Colorado State Patrol Cadet Taylor Thyfault, who was killed after being hit by a car during a high-speed chase back in May 2015, was honored Friday.

He posthumously received the Military Order of the Purple Heart. His mom, Carole Adler, accepted it for him. She received a ribbon and a plaque in his honor.

Every officer or trooper injured or killed in the line of duty receives the award. The ribbon would have gone on his uniform in Thyfault was alive.

Thyfault was a 21-year-old cadet at the time of the crash. He was posthumously made a trooper.
