VAIL — Police say the bomb threat that spurred voluntary evacuations and a road closure in Vail on Saturday evening was "placed fictitiously."

According to the Vail Police Department, someone called the Vail Communications Center around 6:30 p.m. and said a condo complex on Garmisch Drive in West Vail had four pressure cooker bombs in it that would be detonated if a ransom was not paid to the caller.

The call was recorded and tracked and the owner of the phone was found. It was then, police say, they learned the owner of the phone did not know or authorize this phone call be made.

It was quickly determined there was no threat to the public. A voluntary evacuation alert was sent to those who lived in the condo complex.

Garmisch Drive was closed from 6:40 p.m. until about 9:30 p.m. during the investigation.

No arrests have been made, and anyone with information in connection to the case is urged to call Detective Sgt. Luke Causey at 970-470-2372.
