The open general-election primaries that long have been sought by Colorado business leaders are about to become reality.
Now the question is whether they will produce the more moderate voting bases that those corporate officials also have craved.
Colorado House members unanimously approved a bill late Tuesday that establishes the framework for the state to offer presidential primaries again beginning in 2020 and to allow unaffiliated voters to cast ballots either in the Republican or Democratic primaries beginning next year.
Republicans and Democrats still would be allowed only to vote in the primaries of the party with which they are affiliated.
