CSU 'dreamer' to attend State of the Union

"m excited because I've been placed in a really awesome opportunity where I can l represent such a big group of people." Marquez said.

A Colorado State University student is attending the State of the Union address on Tuesday in the nation's capitol.

Anarely Marquez, 21, was invited to attend by Democratic Congressman Jared Polis.

'I don't think there's ever been a question about where home is and I think we've always known it's here in Colorado," Marquez told 9NEWS.

She was born in Mexico but came to the U.S. with her parents when she was 6 to help care for her grandparents after her grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer.

"She is a triple major at CSU,' said Congressman Jared Polis (D) Boulder. "I didn't have a 4.3 GPA, I hardly knew anybody who does. What an amazing aspiring American. We need to create a way where she can get right with the law and someday become a citizen."

President Trump is expected to call for immigration reform in Tuesday's address to the nation. He rolled out a plan this week that offers dreamers a path to citizenship along with border wall funding.

"Our immigration system is broken and it needs to be fixed," Marquez said. "Not just for the 800,000 dreamers but for all the immigrants are coming and future immigrants that want to come to the U.S. because immigrants do make America great."
