Donald Trump told supporters in Pueblo he could fix what he called "The Broken Tax Code."
He defended his use of legal tax structures that the New York Times says could have allowed him to avoid federal income taxes for nearly two decades, because he lost almost $1 billion in 1995.
Trump says he brilliantly used the tax code to his advantage. He hit that message again at his rally in Loveland on Monday.
"It's something I've been talking about for a long time. I've been talking about it a long time. You've heard me. Despite being a big beneficiary, I must admit. I understand the tax laws better than almost anyone, which is why i'm the one that can fix them. And that is what I commit to you.
Trump has not released his tax returns and claims an ongoing audit prevents him from doing so.
The IRS has said it does not -- it's Trump's choice.
