The Denver community has suffered a major loss.

A woman who dedicated her life to making the lives of other people better has died.

The family of Gene Koelbel tells us she died on Sunday. She was a well-known community volunteer and philanthropist, and also a 9Who Care winner.

Many knew her as the Queen of the Denver Santa Claus Shop - an organization that has been giving away toys to children in need for more than 80 years.

Gene worked with the shop for 50 years. She was 90 years-old.

There will be a memorial service for her Friday, December 2, at the Most Precious Blood Catholic Church on 2250 S. Harrison St. at 2 p.m.
