Authorities are trying to determine who left behind what police believe could be Molotov cocktails near the Colorado Convention Center Friday morning.

A cleanup crew found the suspicious items near Welton and 13th Streets, and notified police.

While they haven’t confirmed exactly what the items are, when Denver Police were asked if the items were Molotov cocktails, a sergeant said “common sense can tell you what they are.”

A 9NEWS photographer in the area saw bottles with rags plugged in them.

Those bottles have since been cleaned, and the liquid inside has been dumped into bins.

It’s unclear if any suspects have been identified, or what police believe the motive may have been for the incident.

The Denver Police Bomb Squad did respond to the scene.
