Video shows possible witness to shots fired in JeffCo, shelter in place lifted

The investigation is occurring near C-470 and Ken Caryl.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office released video Friday of a person who they believe may have been a witness to a series of shots fired in the area of C-470 and West Ken Caryl Avenue at around 6:30 a.m. that morning.

The incident put the community on alert, prompted a shelter-in-place order for nearby residents and lockouts at every JeffCo school south of US 285.

Those lockouts have since been lifted. While they were in place, parents were told not to take their kids to school if they hadn't already and to stay indoors.

The shelter-in-place order has also been lifted, along with the closure of West Ken Caryl Avenue.

The investigation centered around a shopping center in the area of Ken Caryl and Shaffer Drive, the sheriff's office tweeted.

Shaffer remains closed, and as of 11:30 a.m., no suspect had been located.

The video released by the sheriff's office shows a person getting into a silver passenger vehicle who may have seen the shots fired. That person was not named a suspect.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 303-271-0211 or Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP.
