Brush fire burns half-acre along Cherry Creek Trail

A brush fire along the Cherry Creek Trail is completely contained after sparking in Parker on Sunday afternoon, according to South Metro Fire Rescue.

The fire, which burned only about a half-acre, was reported around 2:30 p.m. along the trail south of Cottonwood Drive.

Sawyers from the SMFR Wildland Team are cutting down smoldering trees to prevent future fall hazards.

No structures were ever at risk and no injuries were reported.

Officials with South Metro Fire Rescue said witnesses reported seeing juveniles fleeing the area when the fire started. Investigators are following up on that information.
