LAKEWOOD — Lakewood police are investigating a crash that killed a woman and left a child seriously injured.

The child was airlifted to Children's Hospital Colorado with life-threatening injuries.

The crash happened shortly after 7:00 a.m. at West Alameda Avenue and South Oak Street.

Four cars were stopped in the right-hand lane at a red light, according to police. A fifth vehicle, a Ford pickup truck, rear-ended a minivan which initiated the chain-reaction crash.

The woman who died was the driver of that minivan. The young boy was in the vehicle with her.

Westbound Alameda was closed between Kipling and Oak, and eastbound Alameda traffic was being diverted to the nearby frontage road.

We do not know the exact relationship between the woman killed and the young child involved in the crash, other than they were in the same vehicle.
