DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL — Denver is among 15 potential sites being considered for the U.S. Army’s Futures Command headquarters, according to a letter sent by U.S. Army Under secretary Ryan McCarthy to the U.S. Senate and U.S. House Armed Services Committees.

Although the U.S. military leads the world in war-fighting technology, these tools often can take a long time to reach the battlefield. Futures Command seeks to join forces with private industry and public institutions to develop a new approach to equipment research, development, and procurement that will lean heavily on resources within major cities to bolster the Army’s internal efforts.

That's why access to "leading academic and commercial institutions to harness the best talent possible in emerging technology and innovation” are cited as key elements that will decide where the new headquarters is located.

According to McCarthy, the new headquarters for the command needs to be small, unbureaucratic, and able to blend in to the hoodies-and-sneakers culture of civilian innovators from both the private sector and academics.
