A recording first uncovered by CNN on Monday evening shows Donald Trump Jr. making a joke about the Aurora theater shooting on a radio show the day of the tragedy.
Trump Jr. appeared on satellite radio’s ‘Opie and Anthony’ while they discussed the July 20, 2012 attack, where a gunman killed 12 people and wounded 70 others who were attending a midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises.”
His controversial response occurred after they played a clip of a witness talking about what happened.
“Everything was good until … we saw gas and sparks,” the witness is heard saying on a Soundcloud recording posted by CNN, “and sounded like really strong fireworks … and then you just hear people yelling and actually just a few … rows away from me a girl gets up holding her jaw. I guess she was shot.”
“Overall I give the movie two thumbs up!” Trump Jr. is heard saying afterward.

It didn’t take long for Democrats to respond to CNN’s report.
District 6 Congressional Candidate and current State Senator Morgan Carroll issued a statement, saying:
“The tragic Aurora shooting happened just five minutes from my house, in the district I was elected to represent. Donald Trump Jr. should apologize immediately to the families and victims affected by this terrible tragedy. The loss of life and horror faced by this community and all in that theater that day is no joke.”
Trump Jr. has not acknowledged the CNN report as of this writing.
