Some relief for people who need to travel between Estes Park and Loveland over the Thanksgiving holiday.

U.S. Highway 34 will be temporarily open to all drivers traveling over the holiday through Big Thompson Canyon.

A three-mile stretch of the highway between Cedar Grove and Drake has been closed since mid-October.

Only people who live in the canyon have been able to travel on the road.

But starting at 4 p.m. Wednesday, November 23, all drivers - with or without residential permits - will have access to the highway.

While the road is open a traffic signal and flaggers will help guide motorists through a single-lane section of the highway in the construction area.

Drivers should be prepared to stop for up to 10 minutes.

The stretch will close again on Sunday, November 27, at 7 p.m.

The Colorado Department of Transportation closed U.S. 34 to begin repairs on the massive damage left by the 2013 floods.

Construction is expected to be complete by Memorial Day weekend next year.
