Colorado Eagles forward and Avalanche prospect, Julien Nantel, scored the overtime-winner against the Toledo Walleye for their third overtime win in the post season and a 2-1 series lead in the Western Conference Finals.
Both games between the Eagles and the Walleye prior to Wednesday's game had only been separated by a goal or two. Walleye, the team with the best ECHL regular season record, and the Eagles, the team with the third best record in the regular season, were in for another close battle.
It was only a matter of time until the two would be knotted after regulation and prepare for an overtime period.
The Eagles had the upper-hand in overtime experience this playoffs. They've won two overtime contests, both against the Idaho Steelheads in the first round. The Walleye have a single overtime loss this playoffs.
It took Nantel just 1:20 into the extra period to net the game winner on a wrist shot from the point that snuck its way past the Walleye goalie, Jeff Lerg.
Alex Belzile would tally an assist on the game-winner and also the fourth goal of the game to knot it 2-2.
Eagles take a 2-1 series lead after their 4-3 victory Wednesday night. The two will meet again at Budweiser Event Center on Friday, May 19 and Sunday, May 21.
