ENGLEWOOD—For Thanksgiving, the Broncos’ practice had the type of intensity normally associated with the dog days of training camp.
According to multiple sources, there were two fights in practice Thursday at UCHealth Training Center. One skirmish was between rookie receiver Isaiah McKenzie and veteran cornerback Chris Harris Jr. Another dustup was between offensive lineman Connor McGovern and defensive lineman Zach Kerr. The McKenzie-Harris battle was a haymaker-flying doozy, according to witnesses.
Bring on the Raiders!
It was a strange scene in the minutes following practice. Huddled up a few yards from where the media gathered for head coach Vance Joseph’s post-practice press conference was Joseph, general manager John Elway, director of player personnel Matt Russell and executive vice president of public & community relations Patrick Smyth.
Their conversation appeared serious. After that group broke up, Broncos veteran cornerback Aqib Talib was in a serious discussion with Elway.
In the locker room afterwards, McKenzie sat at his locker with tears in his eyes as he appeared to be receiving a pep talk from running back C.J. Anderson.
And the offensive line was telling media members to go home and enjoy Thanksgiving with family.
What, and miss all the fun? Happy Thanksgiving, guys.
