Apparently, not even the King of 2A can take on the 3A juggernauts.

Wednesday night's girls' soccer contest featured Denver Christian, the No. 1 team in 2A, against Colorado Academy, the No. 2 ranked team in 3A.

While the Thunder were the home team, the only storm came from the visiting Colorado Academy Mustangs, who got off to a quick start and ended up winning by a final score of 9-0.

The visitors scored five goals in the first half, and then tacked on two more in the first 10 minutes after the break.

Seven players got in on the scoring action for Colorado Academy, and Sophomore Mari Annest scored a hat trick to lead her squad.

The team now gets ready for its last regular season game, when the school takes on defending 5A champion Grandview on Friday.
