Dakota Ridge and Highlands Ranch square off in a high school baseball game at Coors Field on Friday, March 16, 2018.

Tuesday marked the official start of spring, so it only makes sense that the Prep Rally Honor Roll would feature the top plays from the start of the high school spring sports season.

Starting off the countdown this week is Dakota Ridge. The Eagles are one of 28 high school baseball teams chosen to play a game at the Colorado Rockies' home stadium, Coors Field. Dakota Ridge made some big league plays against Highlands Ranch, including a throw out at second base between Jake Collins and Jason Kramlich. The defensive play is our No. 5 play this week.

The No. 4 play of the week comes in a varsity debut. Heritage High School freshman Derek Mackey made his first varsity save (facing his first varsity shot) against the No. 3 team in the state, Kent Denver. Mackey's impressive reflexes stopped a wide open Sun Devil attacker -- not a bad way to kick off a high school career.

Another freshman took home our No. 3 play of the week. Centaurus freshman Sydney Smith didn't need any help scoring her goal against Rock Canyon last week. She won the face-off and took the ball straight down the field before burying it. That helped the Warriors top the Jags in a nail biter, 11-10.

The No. 2 play this week was from the defending 5A girls' soccer state champ, Mountain Vista. Game scoreless with No. 9 Columbine until Shaye Jones one-times the ball past the keeper to lift the Golden Eagles to a 1-0 win.

But this week's top play belongs to the Mountain Vista baseball team. Drew Stahl hit a three-run homer against Lakewood to help the Golden Eagles win big. They're now ranked No. 1 in the state in the 5A classification.

We've ranked them, now we'd like to hear what you think should be our top play! VOTE for the play you think should be placed in the top spot. The winner will be announced during the 9NEWS Sunday morning Prep Rally.

Remember, if you get a great play on camera, send it to us via email at sports@9news.com. You can also tweet us @9Preps. You never know...you could see it on our next countdown!
