Behind great pitching, solid defense and a couple of runs batted in from one of their seniors, the Mullen baseball team was able to beat Horizon, 2-1 at Coors Field Thursday afternoon.

The contest turned into a duel on the mound between starting pitchers Will Miller and Ryan Starbuck. Both seniors had it going on the big league diamond, as things stayed scoreless until the bottom of the 4th inning.

That's when Horizon got its lone run of the game. With a runner on second base, Hawks junior catcher Dalton Walmsley lined a double down the right field line to make it 1-0.

But, the Mustangs wasted no time responding. In the top of the 5th, Bryce Kamstra blooped a ball that landed in shallow right center to score a run and tie things up at 1 a piece.

Mullen then took the lead for good in the 7th and final inning. After a one-out triple from Cole Elges, Kamstra once again came through--this time with a sacrifice fly for what would end up being the winning run.

Junior Evan Molloy came to the mound in the bottom half of the frame and earned the save for the Mustangs, as Mullen hung on for the 2-1 victory on baseball's biggest stage in Colorado.
