Over 2/3 of the way through the high school basketball season, Rock Canyon is still unscathed, still perfect and still the team to beat in class 5A.

The No. 1 ranked Jaguars improved to a perfect 14-0 overall record Tuesday night with a hard-fought road win over No. 6 Regis Jesuit, 55-50.

Senior Tyson Gilbert led the way with a game-high 17 points, while fellow seniors Blake Williams and Sam Masten tacked on 13 and 12, respectively.

Elijah Martinez and Jamil Safieddine were the leading scorers of the Raiders with 13 points a piece, as the home team hung around all night but couldn't take control over the top dog in the state.

Rock Canyon outscored Regis in each of the first 3 quarters to take an 8-point lead into the 4th, but the Raiders made things exciting down the stretch, cutting the deficit to as little as 2 points.

That's as close as they would get. The senior leadership of the Jaguars closed things out in the final minutes with a couple of big buckets from Masten and Gilbert, who also hit 2 free throws with 5 seconds left to seal the game for good.

Up next, Rock Canyon looks to improve to 15-0 with a game against 11-3 Ponderosa this Thursday, while Regis will hope to bounce back as the team travels to Douglas County.
